The Problem

Albertans are busy people — we go to work, we go to school, and we share our lives with family and friends. What happens when we hit a bumpy patch?

One in five of us will have a mental health problem in any given year and, by the time we turn 40, half of us will have experienced a mental health problem. Youth and young adults between the ages of 15 and 24 are more likely to experience difficulties with their mental health.

The Solution

Every Albertan should have access to highly effective counselling without waiting or financial barriers. Counselling Alberta makes this possible.

Counselling Alberta is a non-profit that provides province wide online and in-person counselling programs in response to the growing need for mental health services across our province.

Counselling works. And the sooner people get help, the better and faster the results.

With the support of the Alberta Government, Counselling Alberta provides online counselling throughout Alberta including rural and remote areas, as well as in-person counselling in cities across Alberta including Edmonton, Lethbridge, Grand Prairie, Red Deer, Fort McMurray and Medicine Hat.

Counselling Alberta offers quick access to highly effective counselling without financial barriers. No one is turned away.

We help people of all ages, couples, and families, learn the tools and build the skills to take on life’s challenges.

Questions and Answers

Does online counselling work?

Research shows that online counselling is equally effective as in-person care, and feedback from clients has been overwhelmingly positive.

Calgary Counselling Centre and Counselling Alberta have delivered hundreds of thousands of hours of  online counselling to individuals, couples, families, children, and youth with client results being equally or more effective to in-person counselling.

Some of the advantages of online counselling is that it eliminates barriers for access. Barriers such as time, mobility, stigma, and anxiety.
